Costly Savings – ‘Does it comply?’

“Where quality is the thing sought after, the thing of supreme quality is cheap, whatever the price one has to pay for it.” – William James

In an age where goods and services can be sought so easily from all over the world through the internet it would not surprise most that the countries regulatory bodies struggle to keep up with the number of new products being imported.

Combine the above with financial pressure, the lingering effects of the 2008 Financial Crisis and unknowing (or unscrupulous) contractors and a dangerous situation arises. Installation of non-compliant electrical equipment has far reaching effects. The financial cost of non-compliant and unsafe equipment is estimated at $489 Million per annum in Australia alone, this includes over 60 deaths between 1997 and 2003.

The National Electrical and Communications Association in partnership with Voltimum have launched a education campaign to lower the chances of people purchasing and installing non-compliant equipment. Along with the website www.doesitcomply.com.au they have online training, support material and videos.

What can you do as a customer? Next time you receive a quote from an Electrical Contractor don’t just take into consideration the bottom line price but press them for information regarding what equipment they are supplying, ask the question ‘Does it comply’. The cost of not doing so may be a lot higher.

Enwise Electrical and Refrigeration only uses Australian compliant equipment and are happy to supply technical data on all it’s products.
